Abstract: İn this paper, a signed varibale step size least mean square (SVSS-LMS) based adaptive filter is implemented for the shunt hybrid active power filter (SHAPF). To construct the SHAPF topology, a shunt passive power filter (PPF) and shunt active power filter (SAPF) are used (SAPF). The PPF is designed for predominant harmonics (5th and 7th). The fundamental component is extracted from harmonics using the SVSS-LMS adaptive filter technique, and the reference current is produced. Harmonics in the system source current are mitigated, keeping the power factor close to 1, and bringing the total harmonic distortion (THD) down to IEEE-519 srandard. The proposed method for the SHAPF system is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and the results are analysed for both steady-state and transient situations. The OPAL-RT digital simulator is used in a model-inthe-loop (MIL) setup to verify the simulation results in real time.
