Locating Transgender Narratives in Women’s Studies

Abstract

In this paper I will argue that transgender narratives in India, when read with in the Context of women's and gender studies, will make the discipline of Gender Studies inclusive and it will slowly generate a new discipline called Transgender Studies like its western counterpart. Taking instances from recent transgender autobiographies, I shall highlight that transgender narratives domesticate pan-Indian epic tradition to rehearse gender stereotypes, yet in seeking its alternatives they free themselves from the orthodox tradition.
