Abstract: The failure of Total hip replacement (THR) is due to the improper material selection and dimension of THR components. A dynamic analysis is carried out for two different bearings, i.e., metal/polyethylene and ceramic/ceramic bearing of three different head sizes 28,30 and 32mm respectively. The material and head sizes are optimized by the minimum stress generated in the THR assembly. The design and assembly of THR are carried out in CATIA; analysis is performed in ANSYS. A human load of 100Kg considered for analysis. The ceramic/ ceramic 30mm femoral head generates less von-mises stress compared to other hip assemblies. Form the calculated wear rate it is expected the design is safe for 15 years.
