dc.description.abstracthis paper presents the design of two Half Mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide Filters using U shaped slots and tapered metallic via for X band and Ku band applications. The U shape slots are created to achieve wide passband of operation and for the better stop band performance. Tapered metallic vias are used to provide a smooth transition between Microstrip line and Half Mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide (HMSIW) structure. The designed filter is very much compact in size, very less complicated in structure, exhibits better return loss, insertion loss, very low and constant group delay which shows linearity of the phase response. The filters are designed and simulated using HFSS v.15. These filters are designed using low cost widely available substrate FR4 with thickness of 0.5 mm. The foot print of the filter for X band is 23.2 × 5.46 mm2 and for Ku band is 17.4 × 5mm2en_US
