dc.description.abstractMorphological aspects such as volume fraction of various phases, nodularity, and nodule count are responsible for mechanical properties of Spheroidal graphite cast iron (SG Iron)/ Ductile iron (DI). In present work, DI specimens were subjected to different heat treatment processes to correlate the mechanical properties with microconstituents, to be used for spent nuclear fuel cask fabrication. The investigation revealed higher strength for tempered martensitic specimens with a considerable amount of ductility. Increased Si & Cr content resulted increasing in ferrite volume fraction consequently leading to increased ductility and impact toughness, whereas increased pearlite volume fraction resulted in increased hardness.en_US
