Fermentation-Assisted Saccharification for the Production of Bioethanol from Seaweed

Fossil fuel reserves are rapidly depleting and the burning of conventional fuels releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Crops which are rich in sugar and starch are the best biomass for conversion to ethanol. However, most of them are edible crops and this competes with their use as food. One promising alternative is bioethanol production from seaweed. One of the major advantages associated with using seaweed is that it can grow in ocean water without the need for arabl...

Efficiency Optimization of Si-nanowire Heterojunction Solar Cell by Band Gap Engineering

The Si Nanowire arrays offer a distinct advantage in solar cell design due to the tunable band gap with improved performance. By increasing the SiNW emitter band gap from 1.1 eV to 1.9 eV, the work demonstrates a significant efficiency boost from 15.2% to 21.7% for the optimized band gap of 1.5 eV. An increased open-circuit voltage primarily drives the improvement, as the wider band gap creates a larger valence band offset, which suppresses hole injection and reduces interface recombination. ...

Evaluation of the InGaP, GaAs, and Si-nanowire Multijunction Four-terminal Bifacial Solar Cell

Multijunction bifacial solar cells combine multiple cells to simultaneously generate power from both the front and rear sides. The architecture significantly enhances total energy yield and conversion efficiency beyond the theoretical limit of single-junction cells, making the architecture an up-and-coming option for applications where both high performance and spatial light utilization are critical. The study investigated bifacial solar cell combinations using three single-junction cells (G...

Experimental Analysis of Drying Green Leaves in a Novel Food Drying Chamber Coupled to Latent Thermal energy storage Tank Charged by a Diesel Engine Exhaust

Drying agricultural products is an essential part of food to preserve the seasonal food and leaves by extracting the moisture and providing heat. Drying agricultural products in open air is one of the most prominent methods. However, there are few demerits when agricultural products are dried by open air drying. Drying them in a closed drying chamber has advantages such as controlled drying, contamination issues etc. In the present work an attempt is made to dry Moringa leaves by drying them ...

Study of Charging in Phase Changing Material using the Unused Heat Available in A Diesel Engine Exhaust

Cold start of an internal combustion (IC) engine causes higher fuel consumption, increased exhaust emissions, and increased wear on engine components. At the same time, a significant percentage of fuel energy is rejected to the surroundings as waste heat through the tailpipe. This waste heat can be stored using a proper storage material for later purpose. This experimental investigation studies the charging of a phase change material (PCM) filled in a latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES...

Interval Estimation of the Ratio of Scale Parameters for Two Shifted Exponential Populations under Common Location Set-up

Under the exponential model, the ratio of the scale parameters corresponds to the hazard ratio, a key measure for comparing reliability across populations. Motivated by this, we study interval estimation for the ratio of scale parameters in two exponential populations with a common location parameter. Several confidence interval methods are developed, including asymptotic-like intervals, MOVER intervals, bootstrap-p and bootstrap-t methods, highest posterior density (HPD) intervals via MCMC, ...
