Abstract: | This study presents a sustainable biorefinery approach using banana peel, a lignocellulosic biowaste, to extract pectin (11%) and lignin (5%). Structural characterization (FTIR, SEM, XRD) confirmed their chemical and surface properties. The extracted lignin was used to develop biochar for textile wastewater adsorption, analyzed via BET, FESEM, FTIR, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy. Adsorption efficiency was tested under varying conditions. Additionally, a biocomposite film incorporating sodium alginate and plant extract showed enhanced moisture content, water solubility, UV-barrier properties, and antimicrobial activity against multiple bacterial species. The film achieved 91% biodegradability in 28 days, supporting eco-friendly packaging and circular economy principles. |
