Abstract: The fusion of infrared (IR) and visible images has opened a vast arena of application in the realms of defence and surveillance. In this article, we have worked on different IR and visible image fusion techniques for generating images with better human visual perception and information content. During surveillance, the environment plays an important role in the defence sector. The IR images are quite resistant to environmental factors like fog, darkness, or cloudiness and have significant contrast, whereas the visible images have better texture and resolution, which are in line with human vision. Hence, the objective of image fusion is to generate a fused image with better contrast and rich texture..
