dc.description.abstract | In the arena of reproductive health science, our laboratory is deeply investigating epigenetic mechanisms of human Cervical, Breast and Prostate cancers. Prostate gland imparts in reproduction indirectly by producing seminal fluid, essential for sperm mobility and transport. Accordingly, keeping a healthy prostate is of major concerns for young people and prostate cancer is a challenging issue in veterans’ lives. I am working in the field of prostate cancer since 1999, while I was postdoctoral fellow at the UCSF, San Francisco, California, USA laboratory ((Patra et al., 2001, 2002, 2003) and from my laboratory we contributed a lot of novel information with experimental data for understanding molecular mechanisms of Prostate cancer (Patra et al., 2011; Kar et al., 2017; Pradhan et al., 2019; Kar & Niharika et al., 2023, Niharika et al., 2023). These works providing a scientific basis that life process, environmental threats and cellular signaling dictates healthy prostate physiology and function. We recently have demonstrated that abnormalities in prostate tissues arises due to paradoxical function of a histone 3 lys 4 (H3K4) methylation enzyme MLL1 and H3K4me3 demethylation enzyme KDM5A; and although exert antagonistic functions. these two enzymes physically interact (Kirtana et al., 2023, BBA Gene Regul. Mechm.) – this is a foundation level discovery in the field of epigenetics – and epigenetic mechanisms controls gene expression in all physiological process of vertebrate development, reproduction and diseases (Manna et al., 2023, Epigenomics). | en_US |
