Abstract: | Battery chargers have become a necessity in the automobile industry for mobile phone charging, continuous supply to the music system etc. With the advent of Electric Vehicles (EV), the need for a battery charger has increased. DCDC converters like buck, buck-boost have been used for battery charging for long. Buck converter in battery charger commonly uses a constant current model and a type II PI controller. This paper proposes the design of a battery charger, operated on the high side of the driver to enable a wide range of operable voltage. In this work, a type III PID controller is introduced for the voltage feedback control. This ensures a stable output for a wide range of input voltages and works on voltage feedback which is in line with the industry requirements. Finally, the proposed model of the battery charger has been implemented in PCB for practical use. |
