Abstract: The use of Fiber Reinforced Polymer in strengthening and retrofitting structures is still attracting researchers worldwide due to its superior characteristics, such as high strength and ease of handling. This paper studies the behaviour of strengthened RC Beams in shear with the externally bonded reinforcement (EBR) technique using BFRP sheets. A finite element model is developed and validated with experimental data, the behaviour of the strengthened beams and crack patterns are obtained, in addition to a parametric study for the effect of increasing the number of layers and varying the orientation of fibers. A better performance for a higher number of layers was observed, and an advantage of 60-degree over 30-degree orientation.
