Abstract: The bearing capacity of the strip footing placed near a c-ϕ soil slope considering Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria is evaluated using finite element limit analysis (FELA) with upper bound (UB) and lower bound (LB) theorems presented. The effect of cohesion, soil friction angle, slope angle, and edge distance on bearing capacity strip footing and failure pattern were studied. Bearing capacity increases with an increase in cohesion, soil friction angle, and edge distance whereas it decreases with an increase in slope angle. With numerous numerical outcomes, the effect of different parameters has been studied to understand the sensitivity of all dimensionless input parameters. The degree of influence of several parameters and geometrical features was taken to prepare design charts and reduction coefficient tables to determine the bearing capacity of strip footing which will be helpful for design engineers.
