Abstract: Cooling tower systems are essential to many industries since they are a vital part of the heat dissipation process. These systems are vulnerable to biofilm formation, though, which can result in less effective heat transfer and higher maintenance expenses. Understanding the microbial diversity in cooling tower systems is crucial to reducing this problem. The microbial communities found in cooling tower systems are quite varied and include protists, fungi, bacteria, and archaea. These microbes create biofilms on different system surfaces due to their intricate interactions. Environmental circumstances, temperature, and water chemistry are some of the factors that affect the behavior and makeup of these microbial communities. Because of this diversity of microbes, creative approaches to biofilm regulation can be engineered. It is possible to use beneficial microorganisms to stop the formation of biofilms, such as bacteriophages and certain bacteria. Creating efficient biofilm control strategies can be facilitated by having a thorough understanding of the competitive relationships between various bacteria. An extensive summary of the microbial diversity found with the help of amplicon sequencing using Illumina MiSeq Platform in cooling tower systems and its use in controlling biofilm growth is the primary objective of the present research. The significance of microbial diversity study as a first step in formulating biofilm control techniques is emphasized in this abstract. Understanding the complex interactions among cooling tower microbial communities can lead to the development of more focused and long-lasting biofilm management techniques, ultimately improving the effectiveness and lifetime of cooling tower systems in various industrial applications.
