When a cover plate is placed atop a boiling water container, its temperature rises with time. Here, we present the characteristics of this temperature progression. Specifically, we focus on the temperature at the cover plate's bottom side (or, equivalently, the water side). We find that a sigmoidal function can represent the temperature progression. An appropriate adaptation of this sigmoidal function-based model approximation requires a further assessment of the experimental data. To this end, first, we present a conversion of the experimental data to some necessary functional forms. Subsequently, integral analyses are performed with these functions. Further assessment of the numerically estimated parameters is performed against the experimental observations. Following this lead, a closure of the sigmoidal function-based model approximation is proposed to characterise the temperature rise in a plate placed atop boiling water.en_US
