Abstract: Background: In occupational health psychology, burnout is a frequently investigated issue. Burnout is one of the global workplace health issues concerning human health and quality living life. The workers in the mining industry are susceptible to burnout issues, but minimal qualitative research has examined the factors contributing to burnout. This understanding could enable the development of future burnout prevention measures and policies. Objective: The study explored the essential factors that lead to workers' occupational burnout and its potential impact on interpersonal issues. Methodology: The study was conducted using semi-structured face-to-face interviews with 40 (20- 60 years) coal miners from four different coal mines. The exploratory investigation highlighted the underlying reasons for miners' burnout. The data were analyzed using "Thematic Content Analysis." Results: A thematic analysis identified different factors that led to miners' burnout, described in the themes like understanding the concept of burnout, challenges of mining work and its environment, and interpersonal difficulties. Conclusion: Burnout has an adverse impact on the miners' physical and emotional well-being. Burnout among miners is associated with subpar facilities and management, a high-risk environment, a profound workload, and lengthy work schedules. Implications: Finding highlights burnout is induced by interpersonal or organizational factors and is amenable to intervention. Together, the mining industry and concerned specialists should work collaboratively on workable interventions to assist miners in overcoming the challenges and managing stress and strain at work. Workplace wellness initiatives may benefit workers with a healthy approach to coping with stress at work.
