Intelligent Reflecting Surfaces(IRS) provide improved energy efficiency and consumes less transmit power in wireless communication systems, when the direct path between source to destination is weak. IRS surfaces contain an array of elements that reflect the incoming signal to the destination with beamforming. The new IRS technology is compared with MIMO technology and simulation results are plotted for transmit power, energy efficiency, and Bit Error Probability. It is seen that the for different performance metrics IRS performs better than MIMO.en_US
