dc.description.abstract | Molecular compounds containing organometallic tags have been found to be potential therapeutics against major diseases and can play a vital role as tracers in immunological analysis based on several analytical methods like FTIR, electrochemical, atomic absorption techniques etc [1]. This very recent application of organometallic compounds has led to the immergence of a relatively new field of bioorganometallic chemistry and is increasingly drawing much interest due to the development of a new class of organometallic compounds and their ability to play a leading role in the field of biology [2,3]. The use of ferrocenyl derivatives as bioactive molecule has been established recently and several reports show that a large number of ferrocene containing compounds display interesting cytotoxic and DNA cleaving activities [4]. In view of their enormous opportunity and to understand extensively the structure –property relationship for these organometallic compounds, we carried out the synthesis and characterization of some cyclopentadienyl organometallic compounds and studied their biological properties. We selected a range of Cp based organometallic compounds like cymantrenyl, ferrocenyl etc. and carried out condensation reaction to functionalize the compounds to obtain a series of cymantrenyl and mono-and di- substituted ferrocenyl hydrazone Schiff base compounds. Efforts have also been undertaken to synthesize and characterize long chain multimetallic chalcones and their derivatives (Scheme 1). Some of the compounds have been characterized structurally by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. Biological evaluation was carried out with some of these synthesized organometallic compounds. | en |
