Minimizing energy consumption is a critical issue for any wireless network. Existing wireless network protocols use different techniques to reduce power consumption. Much research has been conducted on MAC protocols, various issues involved have mostly been presented in isolation of each other. MAC protocol plays an important role in providing fair and efficient allocation of limited bandwidth in wireless networks. This paper presents an in-depth discussion on radio energy model, energy consumption measuring and a classification of MAC protocols.en
